Front Cover Mermaid Dreams

I am the sort of person who is perfectly ok with admitting when I’ve been wrong. I wasn’t crazy about the original Rainbow Eyes palette when I first bought it. And yet when I’m packing to travel anywhere I pick it up and pop it in my suitcase without thinking. Having had time to play and figure out how get make the most of those gorgeous baked shadows I’ve grown to love it and have no problems saying ‘I was wrong, it’s an amazing palette’. When I saw this latest offering on sale for half price (£12.50) I grabbed it and ran to the till without hesitation.

It’s back up to full price now (£25) and I’ve noticed something odd. The Rainbow eyes palette, which has 5 more shadows and all of them are larger, is only £5 more. Both palettes give you a lot for your money even a full price but the discrepancy between them seems odd. Either way keep your eyes out around Christmas when they tend to go on offer again.

So in this you get 20 baked, domed shadows housed in a sturdy cardboard case. You also get a double ended applicator (meh) and the infamous Shadowline – a solvent and applicator designed to turn any of the shadows into liners. I like the shadow line but when it runs out I won’t be running out to buy more as you can get the same effect by foiling the shadows and using a thin brush. The shadows themselves are fairly hard. All of the swatches here are dry with no primer. I like the fact that used dry they are quite sheer. It makes them more wearable as let’s face it, whilst I love these shades sometimes blues and greens can be a bit hard to wear. Used wet they take on a richer, more metallic appearance.

There are a lot of gorgeous greens and blues in here along with some complementing bronzes, silvers and highlights. This, along with the original Rainbow Eyes palette, will be accompanying me on holiday. Unlike say the Sleek palettes I don’t panic about them cracking in transit and I’ll certainly have plenty of options! Whilst it doesn’t represent as good value as the original palette it’s still only £1.25 per shadow. If you manage to get it on offer then you’re getting the bargain of the year. Love it! X

*I bought this whilst it was on offer. My reviews are always my open and honest opinion. For more info see the disclosure policy in the menu on the left*

Project 7 Day Palette – Front Cover Rainbow Eyes

Apologies to everyone who has taken the time to comment on my blog and hasn’t had a reply this week. I’ve been off on my jolly holidays! We just went further North for a week. Now I’m pretty shoddy at doing my own makeup but I do love wearing colour so whilst a lot of people take their holidays as an opportunity to not bother wearing much I take the opportunity to go a bit mad. With the exception of Tuesday (I was walking up Ben Lommond which by the way was hard work but amazing) I slapped on something colourful. This week I used the Front Cover Rainbow Eyes palette. It got a little beaten up in Thailand last year and I haven’t really used it since which is a real shame.

Before I begin the lovely SugarBumpkin is doing the same challenge over at her blog. Click the link to go and take a peek, it's a fab blog!

Sunday: I used Buttercup, Carrot, Super Pink, Blanc de Blanc and French blue over a teal Avon eyeliner.

Monday: Moonstruck, Viola, Clematis, Blanc de Blanc

Wednesday: Biscuit, Hazel, Blanc de Blanc, Moonstruck (using the shadowline), True Blue over Urban Decay 24/7 liner in flipside.

Thursday: My Birthday! We went out for dinner. Laugh all you want but I had fun wearing this. The lashes are Cheryl Cole festival lashes. I was going to keep it neutral with the mad lashes but I managed to blob gel eyeliner on my lid so erm... it turned into leopard print? This was taken at the end of the night so the lashes were starting to lift a little. Anyway I used Blanc de Blanc, Mother of Pearl, Biscuit, Chocolate Truffle and Black Iris.

Friday: Wild Lime, Clematice, Blanc de Blanc.

Saturday: I didn’t snap a pic of this as I just wore a wash of Biscuit over the lid with a touch of black liner as I was wearing MAC Toxic Tale lipstick. The lippie is so in your face that I tend to keep everything else very bare when I wear it otherwise I feel a little too over the top.

Back to work next week and that means back to neutrals. Are people still interested in seeing a weeks worth of neutrals? If so, what palette do you think I should use? I was thinking one of my Sleek Palettes (I have all of them), or perhaps the Urban Decay Naked palette. Or even my MAC neutral palette. Any thoughts? X

*The Front Cover Rainbow Eyes palette was bought and damn near destroyed by me* *seriously, the packaging is falling apart and Super Pink is over EVERYTHING*
