I am generous with my body lotion, a shower marks the beginning and the end of the working day for me and a twice daily application of body lotion is an essential part of that ritual.
However in these straightened times being lavish with one's body lotion is not necessarily economically viable. If it is a choice between plush unguents for face or body, I know where I am making the cuts.
So I thought I would do a little experiment, and compare high street Neutrogena Deep Moisture Body Lotion, with high end Elemis Skin Nourishing Hand and Body Lotion.
Both come in a pump - but as with all pumps, the final couple of inches left in the bottom need to be manually extracted, cue removal of aforementioned pump and enthusiastic thwacking of the bottom of the bottle.
Both have a similar texture as can be seen above, Neutrogena at the bottom, slightly thicker and more creamy, Elemis on the top, a little thinner.
Both apply easily to the skin, the Neutrogena being that little bit thicker has a residue which takes a little longer to absorb, but it is neglible. Both smooth and moisturise the skin and that effect lasts all day.
The Neutrogena has a neutral, slightly chemically smell but it is faint and unobtrusive, the Elemis has that rather lovely signature warm vanillary, malty smell.
Both last me just over a month of twice daily application.......and here is the major difference, Neutrogena Deep Moisture Body Lotion is £7.65 for 400mls, the Elemis Skin Nourishing Hand and Body Lotion is £22 for 200mls so would be slightly more for my 300mls, I know which I am repeat purchasing.
