Do you want a face lift but can't afford it? Or do you need extensive dental work that you have no insurance for.
Many people are considering traveling overseas for procedures that are not covered by insurance. Costs can be as little as 20% of what you would have to pay in the states.
While you can travel just about anywhere, for US and Canadian citizens, Mexico is one of the closest overseas spots where you can find modern hospitals and well trained doctors. Most hospitals that foreigners would consider using offer private rooms or suites, air conditioning and full time nursing care. Some are set up like resorts with facilities to make you comfortable while you recuperate.
I wouldn't recommend clinics found on the US-Mexico border. While some may be good and the prices will be low, you are taking more of a gamble than if you go to established hopitals in major cities like Monterrey, Mexico City and Guadalajara. You will be more likely to find doctors with some US or European training and some with board certifications from the states.
I spend a lot of time in the Guadalajara area and have been hospitalized there once. I had a surgeon trained in the states, who spoke perfect English and who was able to use the latest procedures and instruments available anywhere in the world.
I also have had many friends who have had plastic surgery with spectacular results.
There are some firms in the US and Canada that will make all the necessary arrangements for you, including transportation and a comfortable place to stay while healing. Prices will be half or less than in the states.
However, there is no such thing as malpractice suits in Mexico, so if something goes wrong you can be on your own. So it pays to check the credentials of any doctor you choose to retain overseas very carefully. Look for training in US or European facilites and ask for references.
