In my article Step up Your Skin Care, I explain that after (skin) age 25, you should add topical antioxidants to your skin care routine. Since my skin is well past 25 (lol), I felt I should have more topical antioxidants than my peptide-rich ápotek Cellular Repair Complex contains. In my review of the 7 Top Anti-aging Developments of 2007 I told readers about the amazing coffeeberry. Studies on the coffeeberry as a topical antioxidant were reported to the American Academy of Dermatology at its 2006 annual meeting and in June of 2007 a skin treatment line using coffeeberry was launched. To date, Revaléskin is the only skin care line which uses coffeeberry extract. So when I desired to add more antioxidants to my routine, there was no question which one I would try. Revaléskin has SPF 15 and contains 1% coffeeberry extract, as well as the #1 and 2 most powerful moisturizers (hyaluronic acid and urea). The January 2008 issue of Allure magazine reported test results of an independent study on topical coffeeberry. After three weeks of twice daily use, subjects aged 35 to 60 with photodamaged skin showed a 46% reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, a 64% improvement in skin smoothness and a 79% increase in skin moisture. What I have noticed most is the reduction of spider veins around my nose and overall healthier glow to my skin. I give Revaléskin two thumbs up.Tags: ápoteck smart skin, cosmeceutical peptides, coffeeberry extract, antioxidants, coffeeberry extract study results, Revaléskin
Coffeberry Extract only recently burst onto the antioxidant scene. Studies on the Coffeeberry as a topical antioxidant were reported to the American Academy of Dermatology at its 2006 annual meeting. In mid-2007, Steifel Labs launched its Coffeeberry skin treatment line Revaléskin. There is evidence of the bioavailability of Coffeeberry Extract as well. One study, conducted at the Institute of Anti-Aging Research in Virginia, reported that Coffeberry Extract significantly improved the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles without allergic reaction or skin irritation. Dermatologist Ken Beer, director of Palm Beach Esthetic, was quoted in the December issue of WebMD: the Magazine as saying that he’s seen the science and is impressed. “I think this is going to be a major cosmeceutical ingredient.” Coffeeberry is definitely something to watch this year.Tags: antioxidants, Coffeeberry Extract, Revaléskin
I haven’t found publicly available research results on Coffeeberry Extract as yet, but New Chapter, the world's leading grower and provider of whole-food cultured vitamins, minerals, and food supplements, has launched a line of supplements using Coffeeberry Extract.According to the company’s CEO, Paul Schulick, “CoffeeBerry is a complex whole-food antioxidant with extraordinary ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbent Capacity) values, but it is so much more than just the finest fruit antioxidant. It delivers many of the essential glyconutrients, or essential sugars, necessary to support multiple physiological processes.”The company’s ad for its Coffeeberry Extract supplement says “Coffeeberry is abundant in polyphenols that:
• Help preserve natural antioxidants in the body; • Protect cell membranes and human plasma against damaging oxidation;• Neutralize toxic free radicals; and• Help maintain healthy blood glucose levels.
Coffeeberry contains five of eight rare and essential sugars called monosaccharides. Research indicates these glyconutrients are essential for the various complex biological systems to interact and function properly to prevent free-radical damage and to initiate cellular repair.”Tags: antioxidants, Pycnogenol, New Chapter
I had been using Pycnogenol supplements and a topical for a couple of weeks, when I read your Top Seven Anti-aging Developments of 2007 article. I saw on the Internet that Pyc was 50 times more effective as an antioxidant than vitamin E and 20 times more effective than vitamin C in in vitro studies, but now I'm wondering if I should switch from Pyc to Coffeeberry. I don't think I need both, and I don't know that much about Coffeeberry, but want to use the most powerful and beneficial of the two. Thanks for your help,Amy=============================================Read my answer about Pynogenol.Tags: antioxidants, Pycnogenol, Coffeeberry Extract
