Eve Lom Cleanser

Today is my 21st Wedding Anniversary so I thought I would do a post on a product which has been a part of my life for at least 20 of those years, it has seen me through the births of my children, deaths of relatives, chronic illnesses, breakups, holidays, all those events which span a significant period of time.

This is my most re-purchase product ever, I don't think that there has been a year out of the past 20 that I have not had this in my house, it is probably my most favourite cleanser in the world.

However I do think that this is a marmite product, so here are my thoughts on it.

This is a balm cleanser, and not to be rushed, so if someone is a fan of cleansing wipes or wash off cleansers, or is time starved at the end of the day, this will not work for them. Personally I like nothing better than to massage away, dry face, dry hands - I feel as if I am massaging the day away. As an aside if one is not sure about facial massage please check out beautymouth's fantastic page on the subject.

So here is the product, as can be seen a thick balm, with a distinctive herbal smell.

The idea is to apply a fingerful pm only - Eve does not advocate using this in the morning - dry face dry hands and massage away. The product is removed by pressing a hot muslin cloth over the face for a few seconds, this is repeated a further 2 times to soften the product and then the aforementioned muslin cloth is used to remove the product. This can be used around the eyes if one is able to tolerate.

My skin is oily/reactive and not reactive as in oh it gets a bit red every now and again with a following wind, it has reacted to products by coming out in big cystic jawline spots, to glowing belisha beacon red (even though belisha beacons are a yellowy amber) for hours on end. And whilst I have an oily "I" zone now rather than an oily "t" zone, I am best friends with my Benefit Porefessional thankyou British Beauty Blogger. I have not had a reaction to Eve Lom Cleanser at all.

Eve Lom does contain mineral oil and there has been a bit of a revolt against products which have mineral oil in, whether the reason is that mineral oil is proported to block pores or that it is innate and has no real beneficial qualities, or that it is a cheap filler product.

Now I am no scientist, but what I have found in my experience is that for a makeup remover, I want a product that does not sink into my skin, I want the product to sit on the surface whilst I am massaging away and break up the makeup.

Please read colinsbeautypages on mineral oil written by someone who does know what they are talking about.

I have included this photo below to show that the product can be mixed with water, and rinsed away - please excuse the bedroom detritus in the background as I ran from bathroom to bedroom with a dripping hand trying to locate the camera

I have used other cleansers to remove my makeup and I will continue to flirt with other makeup removers because when it comes to skincare I am a bit of a butterfly (my poor skin) but invariably I know that with other products I will need to double cleanse to remove all my makeup - and I don't wear a lot.

Eve Lom is not cheap - it is currently £50 for 100mls and £80 for 200mls from various stores but what I have found is that my 200ml jar lasts me around 5 months using 1 x per day, which means that my OH is never stuck for an idea for a birthday/christmas present. And for those who turn their noses up at putting fingers into a pot, for goodness sakes I hope that you wash your hands before you cleanse your face.
