Several published medical studies have confirmed that alagebrium (HBR) taken internally lowers high blood pressure by breaking the crosslinks of advanced glycation end-products (or AGEs) which cause arteries to stiffen with age. Restored arterial flexibility allows arteries to expand and contract when blood flow increases and decreases.
Glycation (the G in AGE) is the process by which glucose links with proteins and causes them to bind together, thus stiffening tissues and leading to the complications of diabetes and some of the physiologic problems associated with aging.
Alagebrium is being evaluated for treatment of atherosclerosis, vascular calcification, peritoneal dialysis, osteoarthritis, arterial remodeling, glaucoma, acute macular degeneration, erectile dysfunction and Alzheimer’s disease, among others. What is exciting about how alagebrium works is that it treats the underlying causes rather than just the symptoms.
What does this have to do with Anew Alternative Night Cream? HBR is one of the active ingredients in Anew Alternative Night Cream. Avon uses HBR under a licensing agreement with the manufacturer, Alteon. There are no published studies yet that show topical application breaks AGE crosslinks, though the manufacturer has licensed Avon to use it for that very purpose.
We live in hope.
