Brownie points!

How to do Brown in your home without it looking heavy and old....
Here are a few suggestions for different rooms in your home, let me know which one is your favorite!

Entryway; Some hallway table.... plenty of room for the keys and the mail! Check out the beautifully carved legs, they give life to the table, and moves your eye from the floor to the top of the ornate mirror. You do not even notice that there is a lot "going on"....

Bedroom; Tufting the headboard adds visual interest to the bed. A plain brown headboard would have been borring!! The openwork in the nightstand and the delicate print on the awning, keeps the feeling light. This is layering at it's best, from the wood floor, to the rug, the bed linens...

This bedroom reads cozy to me, and not at all heavy!!

Is this one of the fanciest dog beds you have ever seen?

Bathroom; What initially got me to look at this image was the floor tiles! So interesting!! (I am not familiar with the rest of the property, where this image came from, so I don't know if they are original to the house.... They could be, I guess!) The vanity is quite a heavy piece of furniture, and the thickness of the mirror frame suggests that this is a large room. I think the vanity balances out the pattern in the tile, and neither element takes over the room.
 

Kitchen: Earthy tones in an otherwise white kitchen, looks great to me! Love the texture of the chairs, and also the pendant lamp.... The darker brown color grounds this light and airy kitchen very well!!

Food: And while we are in the kitchen, why not stick to the theme? How absolutely delicious does this espresso and ice cream dessert look? Heck, I would have it for breakfast....

So tell me, is Brown a Go, or a No-Go?

I found one more great hallway that would go so well with this post. Pretty, right? The glass in the french doors by the entrance is so old fashioned and girly, yet the space is so now! ...well, to me anyway.

Hall of Fame

Perhaps it's because I do not have a Hall in my little house, that I am fascinated by how to make one functional and pretty all at the same time..... Perhaps it's because I have been looking for great images for a Hall re-do for a friend (Hi MB!)...

Hall of Fame!

I am always on the look out for a wonderful entrance or hall, and here is yet another one that fits my criteria... I found it a little while back at the Made by Girl blog. I don't recall who designed it, or where it was first published, sorry!

Check out that large black and white above the console, wonderful! Lately I have been seeing elephants all over the place, perhaps because of the new Reese Witherspoon film...

Kelly Green

I have been sitting on this image for a little while now, but with spring (cleaning?) just around the corner, I figured I would share this simple DIY idea!

Sprucing up your hallway console table has never been easier, and a pop of color goes a
L O N G  way!! This Kelly Green lamp is a perfect accent and with its glossy finish, brightens up the space so well, don't you think? The shade has been modified ever so slightly with a green ribbon, so easy to do! All you need is ribbon, glue gun / tape, a steady hand and voila, the shade has been customized to your space! Great and easy project for the weekend!!

This is the lamp used in the above image, in it's original state, with a smaller shade. You could buy a separate and larger shade, depending on the space you are working with, this shade might be a little too narrow, but if it fits, just work with it the same way.

This vibrant lamp is from Crate & Barrel, the name on of the lamp is Kelly (how appropriate!), you can buy it here, it's even ON SALE at the moment...

Hall of Fame!

Great use of light and shadow, playing off the angles in the architecture! The antique frames with mirrors in different sizes, not only bounces the light around, but they also make the eye wander down the hall way, ultimately landing on the cabinet and the longhorn skull at the very end... Cool, huh?

How is this for a foyer? Welcome home!!

Love those tall, glossy, black doors with the round door knockers in the middle. Their circular handles echoing the door frame, the transom and the round hall table...
great eye for detail!!

This house is located in New Canaan, Connecticut.
