Classy Glassybaby!

In the beginning of this year, I discovered Glassybaby (this post & this post). I have secretly wanted to start collecting these beautiful glass votives, the colors are so yummy and there are so many to choose from....

Have your pick....
Personally I would probably stay in the cool color range of the first image, but then when you see an image like the one below, those colors look so pretty as well..... so many choices, so little time / money / you fill in the blank :)

As you can imagine, I have been through the Glassybaby website a few times, they even have a blog if you are interested.

One of the coolest things is the video of how these little gems are produced, one really sees the full process, "the three layers" etc.

Winter landscape + white Christmas tree + huge mirror = lots of light! Love how the soft blues and greens of the living room is echoed in the Christmas tree decoration....

.... even the antlers have been decorated ;)

Into the deep...

I could not help but be drawn in, when I saw this image for the first time!! This garden has been designed by Fernando Wong, an award winning Landscape Designer from Florida.

As much as I love flowers for their beauty and vibrant colors, I also appreciate a well planned garden with lots of foliage. Living in Florida I see many gardens, but not a lot of flowers... I have come to appreciate all the variations of greenery; Foliage in many shades of green, ranging from almost yellow, to white, to blue-ish to Kelly green... you name it!
It takes a real professional to make it look this good though, and a small army to keep it up :)

Do you have a garden? A green thumb? A terrace with potted plants? I have a very small front terrace with a beautiful and fast growing palm, and a back terrace with a few orchids in "hibernation". (from time to time I am lucky to see them re-bloom :) )

We planted a night blooming Jasmin in the back, and it is so fragrant and beautiful!!

Cottage Garden

THIS is were I have been vacationing, isn't it pretty?

The grounds have the most beautiful flowers, and even though it is early fall here, there are still some late bloomers, as you can see. A small album of the Blue & White flowers from the garden have been uploaded to the Northern Light Blog facebook page, I hope you have a moment to take a look!

A new Day...

Evoking the feeling of fall...
The other day I visited the brand new Day Home store in Aarhus, and was able to see and touch some of these beautiful pillows! The colors are so pretty, and with fall just around the cornor, I could have been tempted to buy one of each!! But, both my mother and I fell in love with a pretty little black box, ingraved with a delicate design, and kept closed with a little piece of horn.... We did not buy it, but one never knows what might happen before I leave :)

Continuing with the fall theme, this bedroom has been dressed in fall colors, ever so slightly...
Notice the pretty moss green velvet pillows on the bed, as well as the bench at the end of the bed, upholstred in the same velvet.

Dinner with friends.

TGIF!!!

Tonight we are having dinner with friends at a new restaurant in town; Organic food, locally grown veggies and locally caught fish. Looking forward to the experience, I am sure it will be really yummy :)

This weekend is the last weekend before VACATION time starts... It's not going to be here fast enough for me, only 9 more days before we leave hot and steamy Florida! 
Let the countdown begin :)

Shell Shock

I came across this beautiful image the other day; what caught my eye was the striking color of the Limpet shells... this fantastic turquoise color, in all the different variations. This image really show how a few simple shells can make a big impact, don't you think?

Limpets do not only come one shade, there are also White versions and Pink versions (they are sub tidal) as well as Grey and Brown versions (that are an intertidal species). And guess what... you can actually eat them! They are sought to be a delicacy in both Hawaii and Portugal! Have you ever tried one of these??

OK, so you might not want to eat these little guys, but appreciating their beauty, that we can all agree on, right? What about using the shells in artwork?

I see this as a wonderful DIY project for all you shell collectors out there!! Get your self set up with a shadow box frame, a glue gun and some of these beautiful shells and go to town. I suggest measuring out the space first and marking where to place the shells.... but that's just the designer in me :)

Depending on how may shells you have collected, or the size of them, decide on the size of your frame.

Hope this has inspired you to use some of those shells you have collected over the summer?!

Gates of Palm Beach.

A while back I was tempting you with an image of a beautiful facade, clad in the softest of pale pink flowers, promising more images to follow.... well, here they are!

Ever since my very first stay at a friends house on the island of Palm Beach, I have been fascinated by the homes, the gardens and the sheer volume (you'll see) of the hedges and the landscaping. I live not far from this place, but visit far to seldom. I truly enjoy spending a day in Palm Beach, but while there is world class shopping, I would rather drive around looking at all the beautiful (not all) homes, and the fantastic (all) gardens! I have said it before; the landscaping is impeccable!!

The easy way would be to fill these "pages" with images of homes, one bigger than the other... BUT, as you can see, I have chosen to show you The Gates of Palm Beach. Since The Island is not gated in itself, tourist of all sorts, even those living locally ;), can drive by.
I find the mystique of "what lies beyond" so fascinating, don't you?

Wouldn't you love a peak behind this door, even if it's just looking through the window??

There are iron gates, wood gates, small gates & tall gates. Gates you can see through, gates you wish you could see through (!!!), gates that have been there for a while and almost hidden side gates and of cause gates for The Help.

The hedges surrounding the homes are for the most part taller than the gates, and do a great job of keeping prying eyes out.

And then there are the gates that have been strategically placed; beautiful bougainvillea and palms, but you still do not get to really see anything :)

Even the skill set of the Gardner is tested... check out this perfectly trimmed circle in the back, finishing the half moon of the iron gate to perfection!

... and what about this? Just one of many tall, green and handsome hedges, keeping privacy at a max and keeping the landscape people busy for hours!!!

Cozy Balcony

 
Came across this pretty city balcony the other day... What caught my eye are the two pained cafe chairs, love the blue-ish color. Looking thoroughly at the space, it really is the perfect extra summer "room".

I like how the weathered teak bench and the painted walls are very neutral, not taking a way from the view, and leaving the greenery and the fresh herbs be the pop of color....

Floral Shops

One of the stops I always do when traveling, be it in the US (Boston has great floral shops) or somewhere in Europe, is stopping at all the floral shops! I know it drives my relatives crazy; from time to time I even ask shop keepers if I can photograph in the store, and I know my sister (Hi Gugge!) gets embarrassed..... sorry!

But why let such beauty go un-noticed?

Lately I have been picking up roses in orange, but I have always loved the pink ones, and the white and cream ones, and.....

Look at all these beautiful shades of pink, how can you go wrong? Does it not just screem PARTY?

I would so love to have a reason to pick up this many roses at one time, but I am affraid in my little house it would be total overkill..........

And what about the drama here... all those tall black vases lets you concentrate on the beautiful blooms... which flower to pick?

I am not discriminating when it comes to flowers, even just one flower in a small bud vase makes my day!!

When in season, I tend to pick up hydrengas, but for everyday, I usually have a few orchids around the house. Not only is that the only plant my cats will not either dig up, or take bites of. And it seem to be the only "flavor" I don't kill right away! Actually.... They grow very happily here, and re-bloom often :)

What is your go-to flower? What do you often come home with from the market? Or if you have your own cutting garden, what do you grow? Do tell!!
