Happy 1st of July!

A little sunshine coming your way!
Check out this absolutely beautiful orchid. It is growing on a palm tree a few doors down from my house. Every so often two, or three, of these gorgeous blooms greet me, I just had to snap an image and share with all of you!

Can you believe it's already July..... WOW!

It's the weekend...

... and I do not have any specific plans!

It's been a long while since that has happened, so I will be happy to relax and enjoy my house, perhaps redecorate a little... I few new magazines have shown up on my mailbox this week, so a little snuggling up with a few glossies will happen for sure!! :)

Monday I will be heading to IKEA, I have a small framing project to finish; there is NO WAY I will be battling the crowds during the weekend! Not in a million years :).

What do you have planned? Anything exciting??

So, I was thinking...

... that I needed to Welcome new followers of Northern Light, and what prettier way than to send you flowers!

Also, I would like to direct your eye to the top right corner (right up there --- > ... just below the header); Now you can sign up for Northern Light posts to arrive straight to your email account, how cool is that! Of course I would love for you to visit here, but nothing beats the convenience of a hot-of-the-press post! Be the first to know!!

And there is even more good news :)

I have updated my Interview page (also located to your right). Just in case you missed it the first time around... but then again, if you sign up for emails, then you will be sure to receive the next one, and I can promise that it will be a good one!!
Might even be coupled with a give-away, ... hmmm   :) It will be ready in a weeks time or so, just polishing it up...

So, with all this good news, I would love to hear what you have to say!

Happy Thursday!

Continuing where I left off yesterday (color wise), just sharing a wonderful porch!
However, if this cheery yellow is not your thing, it would be so easy to change the feel of the space by just changing out a few accessories! ... but I like it just the way is it :)

Shopping: Bal Harbour, Miami

There is a place where the stores are exclusive, the people watching is world class and the inspiration is abundant... It's one of my favorite spots to spend an afternoon!

You can shop till your hearts content, but what I love the most is the atmosphere!! Nestled on the ground level, are Koi ponds with turtles sunning themselves and kids of all ages are mesmerized by the tranquility and sound of the fountains, keeping the place cool. As this is an outdoor shopping area in South Florida, shade and cooling water are essential! Flowering Orchid plants soak up the moisture and display their beautiful flowers, palms sway in the breeze....

You really can't beat the Hermes windows, always classy and colorful.  The staff is always nice, considering it must be obvious, that I'm meerly looking :)  Love brwozing in there...

Trina Turks store is such an explosion of color, so much fun!!!

100 % Capri... I can tell you this much; I have NEVER seen such PERFECTLY pressed linen before!!!!   E.V.E.R.!    I secretly wonder how they dress the mannequins without a single wrinkle.... ????

Snap shot of the tropical foliage from the second level, just to give you an idea of the space.
There are cafes and restaurants, with people watching that is not to be believed! Jet setters from all over the world come here. Many stylish South Americans shop here and it is always fun to watch what they are wearing!!! Black, White, Asian and Slavic people shop here, many different languages are spoken, which I find so refreshing...

Shutters protect the higher levels from the sun, fans keeping it cool...

For the design savy shopper blogger, one store is more interesting than the next. As for my favorite... While I like the clean and crisp (in every sense of the word) 100% Capri store, I always make sure to visit the Oscar de la Renta store. It's cool, tropical, classy, coral-y, beautiful collections... and no, I didn't get a picture (sorry).... :)

Feel like a virtual tour? Click here.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend planned, feel free to share!
Happy weekend!

Peacefull vignette.

Is this not a great art wall? As much as I love color, this is a very soothing combo...
What initially got me, was the silver punch-bowl filled to the brim with orchids! It reminded me of the one Anne Fabricius-Bjerre had on her grand piano (here).  Notice how all the frames are different materials, thickness and colors, yet it is a very cohesive look! There is everything framed here; a beautiful kimono (how appropriate), a cartoon character and even a child's drawing, this is definitely an evolving art wall, but when do you stop adding? Do you stop?
Do you have an evolving art wall like this?

PS. Just 3 more days to sign up to win the give-away! :)

Hall of Fame!

Great use of light and shadow, playing off the angles in the architecture! The antique frames with mirrors in different sizes, not only bounces the light around, but they also make the eye wander down the hall way, ultimately landing on the cabinet and the longhorn skull at the very end... Cool, huh?

How is this for a foyer? Welcome home!!

Love those tall, glossy, black doors with the round door knockers in the middle. Their circular handles echoing the door frame, the transom and the round hall table...
great eye for detail!!

This house is located in New Canaan, Connecticut.
