By Holiday Break Week, I mean the little breather we get between Christmas and New Year’s celebrations. It’s a good time to take stock and make sure you have not gotten too far off the track – healthwise.
I’m convinced that people who put on the proverbial seven pounds each holiday season simply fail to take advantage of this holiday break week. The worst thing one can do is conclude, "Oh well, the damage is already done. I might as well continue to enjoy myself."
Think of this week as a breather; not an opportunity to finish off every last holiday goodie in the house "before it spoils". Cookies and many cakes can be frozen or packed up as hostess gifts for New Year’s parties. Candy will keep; so put it away – out of sight, out of mind.
Whatever leftover turkey and vegetables you can’t fit into normal size meals over these next few days, can be donated to local food programs or ground up to share with your pets. For heaven’s sake, don’t add extra meals or extra-size portions to finish them off yourself!
If you take stock now and resume your diet and exercise routine for this week, you can fully participate in the food celebrations surrounding New Year’s. Believe me, you’ll feel and look a lot better after the holidays have come and gone.
