Effective Skin Care Ingredients

If you go to the cosmetics counter of any department store or if you shop online on sites that list the ingredients of the products they sell, you are presented with a list of chemicals that look like they came right out of a chemistry book.

The first ingredient is usually water and you might want to ask why you pay so much for it in skin care products, but it does serve the purpose of being a solvent and moisturizer.

But the rest of the ingredients look Greek, although they are closer to Latin, and most people don’t have a clue what they are for.

I have tried to crack the code in my series of articles, titled
Effective Skin Care Ingredients. On that page, you will find that I have added categories for different skin care products, such as moisturizers, sun blocks, skin re-growth products and more.

What I have tried to do is point out which ingredients actually do the job, which are in the product solely to make it feel rich and smooth and which add color or are preservatives.

I also point out strange combinations, where one or a group of ingredients actually counter the effect of the product: for example skin drying agents included in moisturizing products.

This is complicated by the fact that different companies tend to call the same ingredients by different names, probably in an attempt to make their product look more powerful or effective.

Skin care companies are trying to sell the sizzle, not the steak. They put beautiful models in their advertising to plant the notion that you too will look like that if you use their products.

My intention is to help you become a better shopper by knowing what to look for on the cosmetic label, so that you don’t waste your hard earned dollars on products that don’t work as well as they should.

You might be surprised when you learn that some very affordable skin creams are as or more effective than those costing $100 and up.

So if you want to become a better consumer and learn more about looking young as you age, visit the
