Neutral lovers will be thrilled with Sleek at the moment. This is the second work safe palette that they have brought out this year, the other being Oh So Special (and yes it was special indeed). I was excited about this palette despite needing more neutrals like I need a hole in the head. It was released last week and I’ve been using it daily ever since trying to get my head round it.
There are a lot of mattes which is a good thing in my book. Nougat (top left) is a lovely matte off white highlight, the classic Noir is a good quality matte black. And yet when I first swatched them I let out a resounding ‘meh’. On the swatches they looked powdery and boring. Nubuck, which I had such high hopes for, transformed from a gorgeous matte greyish taupe in the pan to a pale grey that didn’t show up well on my arm. The stunning shimmery olive with gold shimmer of moss turned into a shimmery bronze. Le sigh.
And yet I have had no trouble using it on my eyes. For some reason it just translates better on my eyes than on my arm. For the record I never use primer for swatches but I always do on my eyes. Even Nubuck shows up as I’d expected it too. Cappucino and Honeycomb make fantastic transition colours on my pale skin. What started out as a bit of a letdown has ended up being a good little work horse. The plumy, green and taupe shades (Taupe is not taupe by the way, it’s a peachy champagne) make it more interesting than the Urban Decay Naked palette and for around £7 it’s cheaper too.
Would I buy it again, yes actually. I keep planning to take EOTD pictures but haven’t managed it yet so I will try and get some looks with this posted by the end of the week. Oh and I will be comparing this to the MUA Heaven & Earth palette shortly! X
