I’ve been dyeing my hair at home for almost 7 years and have been lucky enough to escape any major mishaps. Until recently that is. I merrily slapped on a medium – dark brown shade and dried my hair to discover that I’d gone a little teeny bit goth. Don’t get me wrong, I love black hair on other people. On me though it looked awful. Oh and did I mention this was four days before my cousins wedding? I panicked and started googling solutions and Colour B4 was what popped up.
Clearly I don’t have the cash to pop to a hairdressers and get it fixed, if I did they’d have been dyeing my hair in the first place. Thankfully you can pick up Colour B4 Extra for a mere £12.25 It states on the box that it is suitable for dark hair and colour build up but I was sceptical nonetheless. You MUST follow the instructions down to the letter. It’s a total faff with different stages of rinsing for what seems like hours but it is important that you do it properly. I left it on for 45 minutes (the instructions say ideally 20mins but up to 1 hour).
Let’s be honest about this. This smells like something died. It’s proper full on chemical yuck but my god it works! I rinsed it out to reveal.... bright ginger? Now I know it’s been a while since I’ve seen my natural colour but I do remember it being dark brown. Even my greys were ginger! I wasn’t too fussed about this though as I was planning to dye it straight after anyway which it does state you can do on the packet. All of the accidental black dye was gone.
One thing to be aware of is that your hair will be very porous afterwards so whatever dye you put on top of it will come out stronger than intended. My hair is darker than I’d planned but it is definitely brown rather than black. The process on dyeing my hair, using Colour B4 then dyeing it again have left my hair in pretty shoddy condition.
Whilst I’m sure you aren’t doing your hair any favours using this it does do exactly what it promises to do as long as you follow the instructions. If I have any future hair-mares I’ll be reaching for this rather than forking out for a hairdresser. Overall it’s an impressive (though stinky) product! X
