Just as there have been new advances in the development of cosmetics, researchers are constantly finding that some long held beliefs are not necessarily true when put to the test.
For example, in February 2006, the Journal of the American Medical Association reported that a low-fat diet does not lower a women’s risk for breast or colon cancer, heart attacks or stroke.
As a matter of fact, those on a low-fat diet had the same incidence of these diseases as those on a diet whose fat content was uncontrolled.
Dr. Jules Hirsch, Physican in Chief Emeritus at Rockefeller University, who has spent his career studying the effect of diet on weight and health called the study “revolutionary.” He stated that “They (the studies) should put a stop to this era of thinking that we have all the information we need to change the whole national diet and make everybody healthy.”
